Married couples will almost indefinitely deal with the ups and downs of life and there are times when our own husbands need encouragement not just physically but spiritually and emotionally.
At times I feel I struggle to find the right words to say when I need to encourage my husband. Often I use the same words of encouragement and they just seem to be oversaid. Isn’t it humbling to know that we are all made in the image of God even when we fail or fall short? When I sit back and think about that it is the ultimate love letter to us. God’s love is deep and wide.
If you have ever gone through a difficult time in life there is nothing better than someone who seeks to lift you up, keeps no record of wrongs (a big one for me), and who sets an example of leaning on God’s word for strength.
I feel it is my marital duty to seek to lift my spouse and encourage him versus constantly nagging and tearing him down. I am not always good at this.
Over the last few months, we have gone through many life adjustments with selling our home, buying a new home, and starting a new business all in under 4 weeks. When I sit back and look at our situation from a 30,000-foot view it seems a bit crazy to me. Add in my severe pregnancy sickness with baby #4 and taking care of three kiddos under 4.
Some seasons are easier than others but one thing I know we are trying to do daily is to seek God’s plan and let the other distractions fall away. Not always easy. Sometimes I do not do this with a grateful heart.
There are times when I let my way get in the way and forget to support my husband the way the Bible calls us to. I wish I could say I was an excellent wife all of the time, but I know that is not the case.
I HAVE FELT LIKE A MARTYR AT TIMES…
Do I mean well, yes. But sometimes I value my own image and actions over my husband. I don’t like to admit this but I have found myself:
- Comparing my actions and daily tasks to his
- Valuing my quiet time and recharge time over his
- Feel like a martyr when he gets alone time or an outing and I am at home
- Forgetful of the fruit of the spirit and what that means for our marriage
- Not being as supportive as I should be to my husband when he needs it most
Can anyone relate?
We have three kids under four years old with a fourth on the way. Yes, it was planned. But there are times when we just both need encouragement, alone time, together time to focus on our marriage, and habits of diving into the word of God daily. It doesn’t always happen.
I AM A GOOD WIFE IN SO MANY WAYS AND SO ARE YOU
If you are reading this blog post you probably can relate to me in many ways. You work your butt off for your family, love your kids and husband more than anything, and sacrifice a lot of personal things on their behalf.
Even though we are not perfect we are seeking out the right things daily and the best thing about it all is we have a good husband who happens to also be a best friend. A partner. A spouse. An encourager.
In perfect unity on our wedding day, I vowed to support, love, protect, and take care of my husband. I know I cannot do it alone and need my savior Jesus Christ, friends and family, and mentors in my life to help me stay the course.
Life gets messy. Life gets busy. However, I do know that love covers so many blemishes, frustrations, and tough times because I chose him and I still choose him.
The best way to get encouraged is to simply dive into God’s word. Let’s go!
ENCOURAGING SCRIPTURE FOR HUSBANDS
I am thankful for my husband and love him so much. I still am so grateful our paths crossed 12 years ago. He was my first love and as a young woman at the time I knew he was a keeper.
I wanted to write this post to inspire anyone who may be at a crossroads with encouragement or unsure of how to lift their husband with a few of these powerful marriage bible verses. Endurance produces character, I truly believe this to be true. Having a deep love for the Lord God the head of the church is where it starts.

Encouraging Verses For Endurance
#16 | Galatians 6:9

#17 | Hebrews 12:1-3
“Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer, and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him, he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Consider him who endured such opposition from sinners, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.”

Not only so, but we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope.

Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.

The power of God is truly present in all of these verses, which is why they inspired me to write them in this post. Small things like sharing a verse produce endurance in a much more long-lasting way than anything else will. Another wonderful way to encourage is to find a good book that has a positive and strong message to go along with the verse you share.
I hope this helps someone out there become an encourager to someone they love! May the peace of God be with you!
