In this recipe, you will learn how to make a fresh low sodium salsa recipe from scratch, and if you want to add in more salt to taste it is easy to do! I love how versatile this low sodium salsa recipe is great for anyone looking for fresh ingredients and a lot of flavor.
This fresh salsa recipe is loaded with lime juice, red onion, fresh tomatoes, fresh cilantro, and more! It is almost summer here where I live in Idaho, and my garden has been planted. I love how versatile salsa can be. You can put it with enchiladas, guacamole, taco salad, salads, beef, pork, and so much more.
One of my favorite things to do especially in the summer months is to go out to the garden and pick fresh off the vine tomatoes and make a great salsa. Sometimes I even add all of the fresh ingredients into a food processor for a different texture and style. The opportunities are endless and the vibrant flavors make this so tasty.
I like to control the amount of sodium intake I have daily for many reasons. One of them is bloat. The more sodium my body takes in, the more water I hold. This is not fun in the summer months, or any months for that matter!
I love this low sodium salsa recipe because there is still so much fresh flavor. Eat this salsa recipe with low sodium tortilla chips and it makes a great side!
If you are on a low sodium diet this may be a great way to reduce your salt intake and still get to enjoy some of life’s best foods.
INGREDIENTS IN THIS LOW SODIUM SALSA RECIPE
I love that this salsa is only 7 ingredients and everything is easily found at the grocery store or even in the garden.
Tomatoes
You can use fresh tomatoes, cherry tomatoes, red tomatoes from a can (recommended), or diced tomatoes from a can if you do not have fresh on hand.
Red Onion
You could also use a yellow onion for this salsa. Also whatever you have on hand.
Limes
I like to use regular limes, not the key limes due to the amount of lime juice I love!
Jalapeno
Take out the seeds if you want mild salsa. Leave some in for a higher heat level.
Cilantro
I like to wash and chop up very well. If you are using a food processor you can loosely break up the cilantro. Otherwise it is nice to try and get more leaves than stem when you are chopping.
Garlic
A regular garlic clove will work. I love dorot garlic that comes in cubes for any of my garlic needs. It is fresh and easy!
Salt
I will be using pink Himalayan sea salt but Kosher salt also works well.
TOOLS YOU MAY NEED
- Large bowl
- Cutting board
- Knife
- Food processor if you are skipping the dicing and chopping
- Airtight container for storing
HOW TO MAKE EASY HOMEMADE SALSA RECIPE
Total Time: 10-20 minutes
This traditional salsa recipe is better than the salsa at Mexican restaurants in my opinion. It tastes fresh, and it fits a low sodium diet because you can choose how much sodium intake you want. You can take this great salsa recipe to your next party and please a crowd!
- Get out all of your ingredients: Tomatoes, Red Onion, Limes, Cilantro, Jalapeño, and a pinch of salt.
- If you are using a food processor add in all of the ingredients and blend it up!
- If you prefer chunky salsa, cut each item and add it to a large bowl. I like to add in the lime juice and salt at the end and let all of the flavors marinate together. Remember the less sodium you want simply go easy on adding in the salt at the end and use the right chips.
- Let it sit in the fridge to marinate for a few hours for the ultimate flavor profile.
