It’s Spring and I love nothing more than to put my all-purpose cleaner to use! With three young kids and counting, there is no time for chemicals to be sitting around on our most used surfaces.

For some of you, a new season may bring on some stress. That feeling of knowing you need to clean but aren’t sure how to tackle the chore the right way. I get it. I have been there. Are you wondering about simplifying your cleaning routine, and how to get the job done in 4 easy steps? I got you covered, mama.

DIY All Purpose Cleaner

This DIY All-Purpose Cleaner is cheap to buy, works great even on the toughest messes, and smells good too. That’s winning in my book!

Making a homemade all-purpose cleaner does not have to be hard. At first, when I was thinking about switching over all of our toxic chemicals out of our home in place of cleaner options it began to feel overwhelming.

My advice is to start one cleaning product at a time. Once you use up all of the toxic cleaners don’t replace them and make your own or switch to greener more kid-friendly options!

Throughout this blog, as well as my YouTube Channel I will be giving you guys a sneak peek into the cleaning products we use around our home that are all-natural. If you prefer to watch versus reading check out my video on how to make this DIY All-Purpose Cleaner below.

TOOLS YOU WILL NEED

cleaning supplies

Castile Soap

Castile soap is a highly concentrated vegetable-based soap that is considered a “vegan” soap because it is not made from animal fats such as tallow, or lard. Dr. Bronner’s Castile soap is a great brand that I highly recommend!

I love castile soap because it is a wonderful cleaning agent against grease, dirt, and filth. With three boys it can get dirty around here so I love stocking up! It is so versatile and it can be used for so many things like cleaning your face, dogs, and even your laundry too! #amazing

Essential Oils

I do not sell any essential oils personally but always have loved DoTerra oils as well as Plant Therapy. I have never tried Young Living but I am sure they are great too. Whatever essential oil company you choose just make sure they are of good quality.

Essential oils are concentrated oils that come directly from plants. They are naturally fragrant and they are pretty amazing to clean with because of their disinfectant properties. Lemon essential oil is my favorite to clean with. Anything citrus! Peppermint also smells nice.

Water

Water is simple and one of the most important resources to use for this DIY All-Purpose Cleaner. Using distilled and filtered water is important so that bacteria doesn’t grow over time, but if you just use tap water that works as well. The storage life is around 1-2 weeks for clean tap water and longer storage needs to filter or boil the water!

Spray Bottles

Having a good spray bottle is essential to making your cleaners. There are a few options for you to utilize. You can repurpose old cleaning bottles and fill them up whenever you run out and need to make more. Or you can buy your bottles, I just love these glass amber bottles!

If you are going to be using essential oils in your cleaners, using glass and amber is vital to ensuring the plastic doesn’t leech into the oil and cleaning solution over time!

A Funnel

A simple funnel will be key to ensuring no messes are made and money is lost on the countertop! I love the freedom it gives me to freely pour. Not essential, but nice to have.

HOW TO MAKE DIY ALL-PURPOSE CLEANER

With an all-purpose cleaner recipe, you are going to want to pick your scent of choice first! Do you want to have a more citrus-like smell or a seasonal smell (peppermint for example)? My go-to essential oils to use are Lemon, Peppermint, GrapeFruit, and Wild Orange.

This essential oil all-purpose cleaner is meant to clean so many different areas of the home. I like to use this specific recipe to clean my countertops, kitchen cupboards, the inside of our refrigerator, and my bathroom surfaces and cupboards.
